YOUTH SOCCER REGISTRATIONS

Registrations for the Chariton Recreation Department's Youth Soccer Program have now started. All boys and girls entering the first through seventh grades this fall are eligible to participate in the program.

Registration forms are available at Chariton City Hall and are due on August 9, 2011.   (No one will be allowed to participate in any games or practices until their entry form and registration fees are turned in.) There will be a late fee for all forms turned in after August 9th.

This year's soccer program will be divided into three divisions. First and second graders will play in the Pee Wee Division (6 on 6 soccer); third and fourth graders will be in the Minor League; and fifth through seventh graders will be in the Major League. The league games are scheduled on week nights during the month of September.  Each team will play approximately two games per week.

The draft meeting for all soccer coaches is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th at City Hall. The Pee Wee draft is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.; the Minor League draft will be at 5:45; and the Major League draft will be held at 6:30.

As always, coaches and referees are needed for the program. If anyone is interested in coaching a soccer team or refereeing, call the Recreation Department (774-0670). Referee’s game pay will be based on the level of play being officiated and experience.

REGISTRATION FORMS AND FEES NEED ARE DUE AT CITY HALL BY AUGUST 9, 2011!

Parents,

The success of our soccer program depends upon volunteer coaches. During the past several years we have had trouble finding enough people to coach and help out with the soccer program. I realize that many of you probably do not know a great deal about the game, and you probably did not play much soccer growing up. Please, do not let this be your reason for not volunteering to coach. We have information at the Recreation Department that can help a person get through his or her first year of coaching soccer.

The intent of our soccer program is not to create great soccer coaches -- the main goal of our soccer program is to provide an opportunity for the kids to HAVE FUN and give them a little exposure to the world's most popular sport. We cannot do this without volunteer coaches. The soccer program will not take much of your time; the season only lasts for approximately one month. Give coaching a try, or volunteer to be someone's assistant. You may find it very rewarding. The children are the only ones that suffer when we do not have enough coaches; let's prevent that from happening.

Thank You,

John Peterson

Chariton Recreation Director
